MasterID is West Virginia University's campus-wide solution for controlling access to University computing resources. The system is maintained by the
Office of Information Technology. If you are having difficulty with MasterID, you must contact
OIT Help Desk for support at (304) 293-4444.
Computer Science 101 uses MasterID logins to allow student attendance login and for other purposes. The information on this website is intended primarily for the benefit of CS101 students.
Before you can use your MasterID account, you first must activate it. You can activate your account by going to
http://masterid.wvu.edu.
Be aware that activation is a multi-step process:
- Go to the MasterID website and activate your account.
- You will receive an e-mail at your MIX (student) or Groupwise (faculty and staff) e-mail address with instructions you must follow.
- You must change the temporary password provided to you before you can use MasterID.
MasterID is maintained by the Office of Information Technology. You may be able to self-service your request using the tools at the
OIT MasterID site. If not, call
OIT Help Desk at (304) 293-4444.
If you need your MasterID password reset or your account unlocked, we strongly suggest calling
OIT Help Desk rather than e-mailing or using their online form. Calling generally yields immediate service, but the other options may take a while for a response.
The only instance in which CS101 can help you with MasterID is if your MasterID username is different than your MIX username. If that is the case, please e-mail your instructor for assistance.
Generally speaking, the MasterID username for students is the same as their MIX username. For faculty and staff, it is the same as the Groupwise username.
If you're unsure of what your MasterID username is, you can
look it up on the OIT MasterID site.
If you have a different MasterID username than your MIX username, such as if you are a staff member, please e-mail your instructor.
MasterID passwords are valid for 90 days. After that period expires, you'll need to change your password before you can use your account again. You should normally receive a warning e-mail about 14 days before your password is set to expire. Make sure you change your password during during this warning period by going to
http://masterreset.wvu.edu.
MasterID accounts can become disabled if you don't use them for an extended period of time, generally more than 60 days. In this case, you can reactivate your account at
http://masterid.wvu.edu.
If you were locked of out of your MasterID account, which most commonly occurs because of too many bad login attempts, you'll need to call
OIT Help Desk at (304) 293-4444 to have your account reset.
Aside from CS101, there are a number of systems on-campus using MasterID. If you'd like other places to test your MasterID account, try:
