Academic Integrity...
Academic Integrity is important.  It is very important that you do your own work.  I've outlined the policy in the syllabus.  The policy is very straightforward.  Do your own work.  Generate your own file.  Do not share your work with others.  Any deviation from this process will result in a violation of the Academic Integrity policy.  The penalties are harsh.  Please be mindful of them.

-Part of an in class exercise.  Use the data on each sheet to create a different kind of chart.  Beginning introduction to trendlines.

Payphone Exercise
-Use this exercise to help familiarize yourself with the RANK function for homework 1, as well as Absolute References.  Merge and center is explained, functions to do average, min, and max are demonstrated.

Open Lab

Open Lab is in 219 Armstrong Hall.  If you need help registering for MyITLab, please stop by the open lab.  Hours are available at http://cs101.wvu.edu/openlab.

You can also complete MyIT in the open lab or any WVU OIT Lab.

MasterID

You MUST get your WVU MasterID account activated to be able to gain attendance credit.

  • It is your responsibility to make sure this is working - this is done outside of class time.
  • An instructional video on activating this account is at this URL: http://cs101.wvu.edu/masterid
  • If you need help with your MasterID, call the OIT Help Desk at (304)293-4444.
  • If you do not activate your MasterID by the end of the first week, your attendance will not be counted.

MyITLab

Obtain an unused MyITLab Registration Code

MyITLab registration codes are good for one use only.  A new code and a 6-month trial of Microsoft Office 2007 Professional for Windows (the ONLY version that you can use in this class) comes with new textbook bundles available at The Book Exchange and the WVU Bookstore.  Repeating students from the Fall 2007 term should be able to reuse their MyITLab accounts, but may get prompted for a new key code - see the video listed below under MyITLab Registration.

Keycodes

If you are new to MyITLab, you need to have a new keycode.  These are normally acquired through the CS101 textbook bundle, but you can also purchase them directly from Prentice Hall.

MyITLab Registration

Flash videos to aid you in registering for MyITLab is available at this URL: http://cs101.wvu.edu/registermyitlab
For best results, be sure to listen with headphones or speakers as the videos are narrated.  You might find it helpful to follow along with the videos, pausing where needed, as you work on your registration.  If you are uncomfortable in registering in MyITLab, you can get help at the Open Lab in 219 Armstrong Hall (for more information on the Open Lab, go to this URL: http://www.cs101.wvu.edu/openlab )

Final Exam
The final exams last 2 hours and are set on a schedule set by the University.  The classroom will be the same as where your section normally meets, but the time and day will likely be different.  They are:

Section 2 final is 3 pm on Monday, December 14
Section 3 final is 11 am on Thursday, December 17

The Final Exam schedule is at http://www.arc.wvu.edu/examschedule_fall.html

Notes about the schedule:

·         You should plan on arriving 15 minutes early.  You will have 10 minutes to review the project (starting at T-00:10:00) and then two hours for the exam starting at the scheduled time.

·         You MUST take the exam at the scheduled time for their section.

·         If you have a scheduling conflict with a Math course, you must reschedule your Math exam.

·         No makeups.  If a you do not not take the final exam, you will receive a 0 for it.

·         If a student is satisfied with their current point total, they may decide to skip the exam or not complete it entirely.  For example, a student who has already accrued 900 points can skip the exam and still receive an A.  Likewise, students may decide to complete only part of the exam if that provides enough points to get them to the next higher grade letter.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Please plan accordingly.  The final must be taken with your section.
